Shaving Dogs

Shaving DogsShaving dogs?

I have a dog REALLY soft. As a breed chow-like and had to get him shaved today, nobody else ever had their dogs with long hair shaved? and I mean really like shaved very short. How long does it take to

I live in a time of climate was very hot in south Texas. I have a dog with long hair. Each spring, I took her in and get her shaved, so it can withstand the summer heat. by fall, she is hairy again and can withstand anything brings the winter.

We shave several races where I work, from Golden Retrievers to Labrador. Your dogs coat should grow back in about 3 or 4 months depending on the size of the mower blade was used. I recommend that you start to get your dog accustomed to daily brushing, etc., so that when his statements full coat, you'll be able to manage it. When it is completely covered again, I would recommend getting it professionally groomed on a regular basis.

I shaved my dogs in summer. Even if they are dogs inside, it keeps them cool and keeps the hair off the furniture! So far, we've shaved shih tzu, chihuahuas, an Irish setter, and a Pomeranian. We shave for the last time in early September and the hair is back for Christmas

God, what happened to my Yorkie Poo two years ago because his fur was so knotted in the snow - when I brought him home from the groomer he threw for one week, the vet thought it was the stress. We bought the shirts because it took a good month or so for her to return to a semi-normal length. Now I take her to the groomers everyother month and make a point to brush, especially when wet. A board, even the janitor did not know. NOTE - At PetSmart they sell a comb designed for tufts of cat fur - and teeth turn it so it works its way through the nodes with minimal traction. Our little man barks again from time to time if it's tight, but the comb the knots really works if you take the slow start and the end of the fur. Good luck - I bet he looks cute in a goofy sort of way!

PS ***** MY groomer is great and she uses a cream rinse on its fur, the impregnation is the effective charge in it while she bathes another dog. MAYBE you can check with a groomer and see if they have a product you can buy or HIT THE PetStore!

I've never shaved my dogs at all, but we had a fight with ringworm and it took about 5 months for hair to grow back completely and then another two months before the color mixed in.

Also, if you shave your dog's been careful, he might get a sunburn!

Hi, Im a dog groomer and we shave all types of dog. The chow ususally takes about 6 months to reject totally. As for Cope, Goldens we shave all the time. But I live in Arizona and the main reason is to try to cool them. But ask them if they can use a blade 4 or 5 on a blade of your gold, which leaves about a half inch. Thats what I use on my gold. It takes about 3 months, then I shave it again, I do it in summer because it takes on more than 100 evveryday summer. winter I let it go.

I put this on my list to watch --- because I need to do the same to our rescue Golden Retriever!
It is a mat beyond help ...

I hope someone can answer!

It will not hurt him. Takes about 6 weeks to get a decent dress back. Start getting him used to the brush or comb now, so there is no hair so he will remain free of mats, which are often the reason people get their dogs shaved. Some dogs do not like being brushed, as he pulls on the hair matted ... NOWS the time for him to make friends with the brush.

We have had to shave our Bichon old because her hair would get tangled, and we joke that it looked like a rat cute, but he definently should be good by summer because you do not want him to get sun burned.
PS-I bet it will look really cute !!!!!! :)

I have a chow and I are regulalry shave myself.
