Laser Hair Removal Pain

Is laser hair removal hurt? I have heard many different stories, which is logical, because the pain is better tolerated by some people. I get a Brazilian (bikini extensive) treatment. I have very fair skin and black hair, which makes a difference. Please share your experiences with pain. Some advice would be greatly appreciated too!
