Gillette Fatboy

Gillette FatboyGillette FatBoy, Revisited

When I started shaving with a razor blade double , a few years ago, everyone on the forums wet-shaving sang the praises of the old Gillette FatBoy. It is an adjustment, throttle opening produces razor by Gillette in the late 50s, early 60s. The razor was well built, solid and with good Heft. Therefore, Gillette has stopped production after a while and went to thinner, lighter, crappier models with disposable plastic being the icing on the cake.

You might think I'm a big fan of the model from the get-go. Wrong, I did not like at first. Shaving was rude and unpleasant. "Must be the razor and not my technique" I thought at the time, and disgusted, I almost relegated the Mint Fat-Boy in a corner of my storage room. Yes, you heard right, he does not secured a dusty corner of my cabinet. As it turns out, it was actually my technique. A few months ago I decided to give another chance to my collection of old Gillette razors. Since the first experiments with a British aristocrat Gillette # 66 and red-Tip were encouraging, I took the courage to try the Fat Boy, this morning. I guess all those wet shavers were actually right, it's a great razor; Nice smooth shave and with almost no cuts and irritations everything with a pen (a blade so sharp that is better suited for those who like self-flagellation rather than those who enjoy a good shave). You can always find a Fat Boy on Ebay these days, but expect to cough up $ 100 or more for a model in good condition.
