Alexandria Body SugaringThe truth about high blood sugar by Jerry Ryan, Ph.D.

Diabetes. High blood sugar. Is it not a "disease of the elderly? Is not that cause problems for your grandparents or other relatives and friends of the elderly? Is the disease where you have to inject yourself every day? It's the disease you get from eating too much sugar, right? Is it not true that only fat is the disease?

Before going much further, we will review some basics about diabetes. Firstly, about 5.5 million Americans are currently treated for diabetes. Studies show that 5 million more Americans have undetected diabetes and another 20 million have impaired glucose tolerance which can lead to diabetes. This is a significant amount of people. The National Institutes of Health state that millions of people lose their vision each year due to undetected diabetes. The most important thing to note is that the third leading cause of death in the United States are the complications of diabetes.

There are two forms of diabetes and this is not the type I and II that you've always heard. The first form is called diabetes insipidus. This type of diabetes is very rare and has two causes. There may be a low level of a hormone called vasopressin or the kidneys can not effectively respond to vasopressin. The main symptoms of this dysfunction of metabolism are extreme thirst and high urine flow.

The most common form of diabetes is called diabetes mellitus. It is the result of a problem with the pancreas and produce insulin. The level of sugar in the blood of the body depends on the proper amount of insulin produced in the degradation of glucose (sugar) in our diet. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease of carbohydrate metabolism. Genetics certainly plays a role in the development of diabetes but a diet of highly processed foods low in fiber has been considered a major factor in most cases. This type of diet leads to obesity resulting from overweight people with a higher risk of diabetes.

Diabetes mellitus type I and type II diabetes that you have heard. Type I, called insulin-dependent diabetes or juvenile. This form of diabetes involves the destruction of beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. It is more common in children.

People with type I diabetes show the following symptoms:
aec Irritability
aec frequent urination
aec unusual thirst
aec Nausea / Vomiting
aec Weight Loss
aec Fatigue
aec Weakness
aec Unusual hunger
aec frequent bedwetting (in children)

Type I diabetics are also susceptible to episodes of sugar in the blood (hyperglycaemia) and blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Each of these conditions can cause serious medical problems.

Hyperglycemia may crawl slowly over a period of hours or days it is more common during illness. A major warning sign is the inability to keep fluids down. Possible complications include stroke, coma, blindness, kidney failure and nerve damage. Hypoglycemia, on the other hand, appears rapidly and can be caused by skipping meals or exercising too much. Signs of hypoglycemia include dizziness, hunger, confusion, sweating, and tingling lips. Complications can be double vision, tremors, disorientation, and coma.

Type II diabetes is most likely to occur in individuals with a family history of diabetes. This form of diabetes is slightly different. The pancreas produces insulin but it does not work correctly. Accordingly, the level of sugar in the blood remains high because the glucose can not enter the cells of the body as quickly as expected.

People with diabetes type II have the following symptoms:
aec Blurred vision
aec Itching
aec Unusual thirst
