Borch Vegetable Soup
2 pounds beef pounds, with the soup bones.
2 carrots.
1 medium head of cabbage.
2 medium onions.
6 potatoes medium size.
2 cups canned tomatoes.
6 whole peppercorns.
1 bay leaf.
A few sprigs of dill.
½ cup beets.
Cover meat with cold water and bring to a boil.
Simmer until almost tender. Add water if necessary
to keep meat covered. An hour before serving, add chopped
vegetables and seasoning. Potatoes can be cooked separately

Grandma's Beef Stew and Dumplings-

1 clove garlic
salt and pepper to taste
1 medium onion, chopped
3 carrots
1 turnip, diced
1 bay leaf
Cut meat into cubes. Roll in flour and fry in hot oil.
Add the onion and garlic. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Stir until the onion is golden brown. Add enough water to cover meat. Bring to a boil. Simmer gently for 1 ½ -2 hours.
Add the remaining vegetables half an hour before the stew is served.

YIELD: 4-6 servings

Sift flour. Add baking powder and salt and sift again.
Cut in shortening and add milk. Drop in stew simmers gently, taking care to drop a piece of meat or vegetables in order not to be submerged. Cover the pot.
